There are various methods in producing stained glass window designs. The traditional method is where pieces of colored glass are cut to fit a certain drawing. Any gaps between the pieces produced using this process are then covered by inserting materials such as brass or copper in between them. The traditional method is the more expensive method due to its complexity. However, it lasts for a very long time and looks stunningly beautiful.
Stained glass windows designs are architectural features that have been into existence since times. Such captivating windows were generally found in churches and monasteries in the ancient times. They usually represented biblical scenes or flowers or other geometrical shapes that used to cast a spell on anyone who took a glimpse at them. Regardless of being a hypnotic design from the Gothic times, it seems as if there has still been a enormous rise in the popularity of such enthralling stained glass windows.
The difference today however is that the stained glass window designs are brought into homes. For the richer and the financially stronger home owner, installing these at home adds a sense of grandeur to the home and sets it apart from the rest. Rather than being limited to biblical scenes, they nowadays can be customized to cater to the home owners demand.
Due to World War II many designs had been lost or burnt during the bombing. Most files had been recycled into fire and other things. Artists during the great restoration period had to be taught the old technique of using glass colored within a pot, painted fired and then connected with lead. Using hydrofluoric acid to treat corroded glass and then scraped the glass with a metal tool. If the artist felt that the glass could not be restored new panels would be fitted.
