Poor Energy Efficiency - Usually multi-slide doors are such large openings that they need to be made of aluminum to be able to manufacture such large openings. As you probably know, aluminum isn′t very energy efficient. Also having such large sections of your home being glass will also require more energy to heat and cool as opposed to if there was just wall space there. However, luckily glass is getting more energy efficient all the time, and there are several low-e glasses available that perform surprisingly well.
While you′re at it, clean up all the "mating-edges" of the door. This is where the sliding door meets with any other surface of the door frame. A general rule of thumb is to simply wipe down anything that looks dirty. Remember, even if the dirt is not necessarily in the track itself, it can eventually fall to the track causing your door to require another wipe down. If you notice any mating edges that feel sticky, take a paper towel and spray some oil into it, then wipe the oil onto the sticky surfaces.
One of the disadvantages of glass doors is that they are more liable to crack or break if they receive a very sharp knock or heavy blow. However, such a blow would probably cause significant damage to any door, and as they′re made of toughened glass, glass doors and partitions are more than tough enough to cope with everyday use, and should not shatter or break revealing sharp edges should a seriously hard knock cause any damage.
